Planetary Citizens

Mission: Promoting global unity and sustainability through diverse, holistic approaches to educational, environmental, governmental and societal challenges, fostering regenerative cultures and true democratic communities for a harmonious future.

Identifying as a planetary citizens means seeking to understand humanity’s environmental predicament and trying to do something about it. Environment is a holistic term in our application that includes self, others and nature. The dynamics of a holistic systems thinking model include the inner and outer realities we experience as well. We live half inside and half outside. It’s time we dealt with that in openness and transparency, too.

There is a quest of the planetary citizen for connection, for harmony, and for embodying a perfected form, fit and function in the world. It is consistent with Vedantic philosophy that is thousands of years old. btw, we’re looking for authors who would love the opportunity to share their work or perspectives that relate to the theme. Please reach out here.

Welcome to PlanetaryCitizens.net, the digital epicenter of a groundbreaking movement that celebrates the power of collective action and diverse solutions for a harmonious world. We believe that true planetary citizenship goes beyond borders and unites us all in a common purpose—to create a thriving future for both people and the planet we call home. In December 2023, we received a 509(a)(2) status with the IRS in the United States. 2024 promises to be a bright year. We’ll be seeking team members for this laborious and lovely project.

A ‘spiritual awakening’ at 18 gave my life meaning and, after nearly 50 years of personal preparation, my work has appeared across mutliple platforms, all themed with ‘harmony among people and planet. We hope you’ll consider donating through the links below so that I can continue to build a network of conscious co-creators already doing their part, as well as redesigning this website after a decade on the web in its present form. You can even create your own fundraising campaign if you resonate strongly and feel inspired to do so. Please do read through what we have now and help us design a more interactive and robust collaboration with others.

Our Hopes for the Future

What would it take to have harmony among people and planet? How can we learn to work together collaboratively and holistically to do so?

Join Planetary Citizens as we re-imagine the future from the inside, where you can explore, engage, and collaborate with passionate individuals and organizations who are forging paths towards a better world. Together, we will weave a collective tapestry of movements that lead us towards a brighter future for all. Be a part of this transformative journey and join the movement today. The only place to do that is inside. Our Founder’s recent book, Navigating Holistic Growth: The Servant Leader’s Guide is a primer for our collaborative growth, understanding and co-creating harmony among people and planet.

“Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises” Demosthenes (c 384-322 BC)

The introduction of this concept of planetary citizenry came a long time ago, perhaps in the 1950s, with its first appearance in the Planetary Citizens Advisory Council in the early 1970s. Don and Martha Keys and Rene Wadlow were members and represented the World Federalist Movement at the UN. Gordon Feller was Executive Director of Planetary Citizens during that period, as information about the old cadre continues to come forward.

It’s been dormant, other than our tribute here. Mironova’s recent dissertation about the global mutation in humanity offers evidence of a much larger happening. Intention and vision are all-important. The ball has been picked up by Live and Let Live, a global peace movement, among others, aiming to calibrate law to remove aggression.

Over the years I’ve written much about collaboration and cooperation to create a better world, one of harmony among people and planet. In June of 2010, I was reviewing Khigh Dheigh’s World Citizen Proclamation (above) and wondered how I might forward this effort still. Khigh passed in 1992, a dear friend and mentor. The thought came to mind, “I wonder if the domain ‘planetarycitizens’ was available. I honestly didn’t think it would be. The .net domain was available. The first edition of PlanetaryCitizens.net appeared on the web shortly thereafter.

The basics of the concept of becoming a Planetary Citizen are displayed below, across a number of fields and industries. We are in a most critical and trying time globally, with conversations like these so necessary to help us rise to a new order of collaboration and cooperation. How we recognize our capacity for change and embrace it, along with the methods to do so, will determine our continued climb toward a Type 1 Civilization.

Our world has changed in 2020 and would might have been perfect vision has been clouded by calamity, presenting challenges and opportunities to emerge in a better place. Our intention here is to support various initiatives, groups, organizations and people who are doing the work of creating sustainable people and planetary friendly activities, products and services. We certainly haven’t found everyone and everything, probably only scratched the surface, yet it is important to acknowledge that there is a growing population of planetary citizens.

The events of 2020 have repositioned our economy, workforce and way of life. New virtual networks are surfacing, with people of passion and purpose gathering to do good and having the skill sets to actually do it.

Progress beyond the Pandemic

In the last few years many new groups have surfaced across the web, providing education, inspiration and some structure for organization. One of those recent developments is the Global Regeneration CoLab (intro doc) Professionals with expertise, skillsets, talent and a willingness to collaborate for change are the core of the group. In May, the Re:Build.co Building Regenerative Communities gathered hundreds for participation in presentations, virtual play space and discussing what regenerative philosophy can do. Planet Home works with some of the most forward-thinking organizations and businesses in the world.

Global Regeneration Corps has a similar yet separate activity with many options for participation and the Regenerative Development Group helps in Building enterprises, investments, and field-building initiatives that help nature and communities flourish. The SEEDS movement is also a viable alternative. Some are even working toward connecting the dots on a larger scale starting with the individual, family and close others, such as Allied Circles of Global Community Designs. Even Sadhguru is presenting a Conscious Planet movement to empower a positive future.

planetary citizensThe Institute for Evolutionary Leadership also has opportunities to learn and grow through conversation and sharing with thought leaders in systems transformation. Three other developing websites are Restor.eco, where nature restoration projects from around the world are featured, and Tepui Design, where sustainability strategies and design with Nature in mind are featured, and Pachamama Alliance to restore relationships with Earth. BizCatalyst360° has a collection of thousands of articles with beneficial intent from a vast variety of perspectives, all aimed at reimagining humanity.

Conversations are flowing from  the inner to the outer in exploring the capacity for humanity to engage a new living awareness on the other side of Covid, or perhaps as a result. Many new opportunities arose for people with purpose to gather. Inspired activity included coming off a 30-year hiatus from TV to produce One World in a New World, a seris of apocalyptic chats with professionals and thought leaders from around the world that explore inner awareness and outer practicality.

The Time is NOW

The old ways won’t work anymore. So why is the current understanding of the NWO so contrary in its ideals, a new façade for the Old World Order of Profit over People and Planet with no regard for human life? Do you believe that to be true? Beyond the narrative that has a global population scared of each other and unable to gather to even talk about it in-person, for the most part, the virtual environment has burgeoned with activity.

We’re faced with the obvious reality that our systems have failed to guide and nurture humanity to a better order. Is there a way to change what seems to be a Profit over People and Planet agenda to a People and Planet over Profit? Perhaps what others are calling a great reset can actually be a great ‘weset,’ an awakening that resets the order of how our systems across the globe work to support life. Regenerative design is an emergent philosophy and uses whole systems thinking to create resilient and equitable systems that integrate the needs of society with the integrity of nature within their bioregions.

Imagine a new crowd-sourced planetary management that doesn’t fight the existing systems. It simply replaces what isn’t working because it works better and people have access to what they need through a better managed distribution system designed by holistic  and regenerative systems experts. Would these global goals be achieveable faster through collaborative and synergistic activity? How are we doing this now? What to we need to change or do in addition? Are the goals below really valid or do we need something integrative?

Vision:

A truly empowered egalitarian, purely democratic and caring community, at all levels, managing the essential infrastructure for regenerative culture, sustainable living and development of future technologies. A community that truly presents collaborative solutions for any and all dysfunctional systems that have ruled humanity to date, resulting in the demonstration of harmony among people and planet. (ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards apply)

How do we create value in the 21st Century?

How do we create bridges for a holistic systems approach to planetary administration and merge diversity effectively?

Whether we fear or welcome it, there is a ‘new world order’ that is emerging. How do we, as planetary citizens, make sure that the momentum takes us toward living as ONE – one people, one planet, one time? The unification of people around the globe is unprecendented and conceivably a necessary evolution of our planetary civilization preparing for entrance into universe affairs.

When we step back, look at the resources we actually have, it all seems to make perfect sense when we realize that there are enough resources to feed, clothe, house and provide health care for everyone. We’ve placed the economics of war over human life, though, and that mindset has to change soon or we’ll self-destruct. Even with those supposedly working for ‘good’… are they more interested in sharing or selling you something? A new agenda is surfacing: People and Planet over Profit.

The truly confusing piece of information is that we spend more money on corporate and military functions than, if redirected, would provide more than enough funds to feed, clothe, house and care for practically everyone. Of course those are statistics, but what if they are true? Aren’t we evolved enough to recognize the need to learn how to work together? We cannot think our way through a system built on vibration. We have to feel our way through it, which means we can find common sense and resonance with the forgiveness of the past and refocus on the present.

Donald Keys, speech writer for U Thant in the 60s, coined the phrase Planetary Citizen on the way to creating The New World Alliance.

From Donald Keys circa 1982… “To cross over the threshold and enter into a world of new and exciting promise requires us to fulfill the tasks immediately before us: first, to become aware; second, to accept responsibility for the human situation; third, to acquire skills; and fourth, to act wisely and well, consciously and continuously on behalf of… a better future for humanity.”

The drive for transparency provides a compelling opportunity to self-organize as a Planetary Society and to explore a common desire; harmony among people and planet as a goal for planetary citizens. We’ve reached a time where possibility can become reality. Defining a timeline is less important than education and understanding; making sense common allows better resource management in the shared responsibility, shared benefits and shared values. Now the trend is toward creating regenerative cultures across communities and industries, with change management processes that engage participation instead of impose rules and regulations.

From Dr. Edgar Mitchell, sixth man on the moon…”No man I know of has gone to the moon that has not been affected in some way that is similar. It is what I prefer to call instant global consciousness. Each man comes back with a feeling he is no longer only an American citizen; he is a planetary citizen. He doesn’t like the way things are and he wants to improve them. It is a universal feeling among the astronauts.”

It is time we made sense common together. PC’s vision is to rally support and showcase those who are playing fair. Foreward: how – Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything: “Our mission must be to create a global community of shared responsibilitiesshared benefits, and shared values. The new focus will require all of us to think about the how, and to find new ways to take action to solve the global issues that none of us can tackle alone.”   That title speaks to this moment and our lives. How do we create value in the 21st Century?

Harmony among people and planet. Dossey’s One Mind illustrates our capacity for change, inclusion and understanding. The drive for transparency provides a compelling opportunity to self-organize as a Planetary Society and to explore a common desire; harmony among people and planet as a goal for planetary citizens. We’ve reached a time where possibly can become reality. Defining a timeline is less important than education and understanding; making sense common allows better resource management in the shared responsibility, shared benefits and shared values.

Consideration and compassion grow as we each embrace the challenge to change personally, professionally and politically. Chaos to order is a natural pattern, each fractal naturally resolving into the whole, a holistic system by design. Unresolved unspoken and unfulfilled expectations, our natural desire to merge with something greater, offers the structural tension to move us forward toward positive change.

PlanetaryCitizens.net’s mission is to create, expose and nurture positive change in the world. We hope to give you pertinent information and relevant facts in the process. Donald Keys, speech writer for U Thant in the 60s, coined the phrase Planetary Citizen on the way to creating the historical New World Alliance, now apparently defunct, but Rene’s work carries on with Association of World Citizens.

The Occupy Movement, a global announcement of dissastisfaction in leadership and a call for change, could be seen as a call for planetary citizens. Numerous groups and organizations are adopting the 12-sector model, illustrated here, as a means toward self-organization. …and indeed, “What Would Google Do?” is worth consideration. Of course, one of the original harbingers of the need for change was the 1992 World Scientists’ Warning to Humanity.

Regenerative Communities and Culture

Our plan is to showcase people, places and things that are contributing to the process of establishing a new world order of harmony among people and planet. Past efforts and future endeavors culminate in collaborative action. Planetary citizens understand the term ‘new world order‘ has mixed emotional perspectives. Our world needs a new order. Our future is malleable and unknown even with the best predictive software. Planning for a worst-case scenario may be wise, but looking for patterns that reveal a natural self-organization may help even more.

Contrary to one of the major competing thoughtforms a ‘new world order‘ does not mean the continuation of the status quo and control of the world economy by the corporatocracy, although one necessarily leads to the other over time as self-organizing fractals evolve. A true ‘new world order‘ is emerging as humanity peers into the depths of what keeps us afraid, angry, ignorant and immobile and transcends all such notions.

The late Khigh Dhiegh, PhD. offers his version of the Planetary Citizen pledge in encouragement to us all. The Shift Movement’s Wheel of Co-Creation is just one example of engaging systemic change in a holistic fashion as does the focus of the Thrive Movement.

Our PlaneteryCitizens.net executive summary invites participation with phenomenal results upon execution. It is a brilliant and timely solution to self-organization through showcasing people, places and things aligned with the new global ethic of planetary citizenship. Our model is an example of the shift from Ego to WEgo, an evo-leap in behavior empowered by the challenge to change from selfishness to selflessness.

We intend to align with the newly released ISO 26000 Social Responsibility Standards and encourage their wide-spread use in 21st Century business practices. Harmony among people and planet is the successful negotiation and transcendence of the chaos we’re experiencing into a new world order of accountability and responsibility toward human and planetary needs for sustainability.

Like  The Universal AllianceThe Shift NetworkThrive and Zeigeist Movements focus on shifts in sustainability and life-enhancing technology development with their deployment of social architecture, Planetary Citizens reach out to create threads of collaboration, cooperation and unification. Showcasing results and engaging discussion will further the attention on achievements and future possibilities. The adoption and use of the 12-around-1 model is also found in IONSHUB and Evolve.

What’s Next for Planetary Citizens?

We cite evidence of the need and solutions available from world servers throughout academiaeconomic restructuringorganizational developmentnew social architecture, regenerative design, scientific discovery, and technological advances that appear to be pointing toward an emerging order from the chaos of our ignorance. Keep in mind the real apocalypse is an uncovering of new information, or perhaps old information we’ve forgotten that brings us closer.

Daniel Wahl’s Designing Regenerative Cultures presents considerations for redesigning our future with the important aspects of sustainable living. Perry Knoppert is leading the way for neurodiverse non-linear thinkers with The Octopus Movement and collaborative efforts toward a better world.

We consider humanity has reached this state of affairs through the best efforts of our leadership, however ineffective. We honor those who came before us, but we have reached a time for new focus and work ethic that matches our desire for change. Chaos in communities around the globe continues to plague forward momentum and no doubt will result in some pretty ugly situations over the next few years (as of 2021). How we self-organize and address the needs so that everyone is served with honesty, integrity and truth is our obvious next step. Thomas Legrand offers insight in Politics of Being from the perspective of working with organizations, public and private.

Beyond Being Human explores the next frontier of human evolution, delving into the intersection of technology, consciousness, and spirituality. As part of the Planetary Citizens network, this platform seeks to inspire individuals to transcend traditional boundaries and embrace a more interconnected, holistic understanding of our place in the cosmos. Join us in this journey towards a future where humanity embodies its full potential, harmonizing with the planet and beyond.

There has been a lack of consideration of the long-term effects of poor resource management and lack of sustainability. We have not learned the laws of nature. Change is inevitable; we can engage it through a collaborative response. how – Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything is an excellent book that offers rationale for a revival of righteousness in the sense of transparency. A promo for a television show decades ago has a similar message, but Who? unfortunately didn’t get much traction then – we weren’t good at selling the value.

We have a challenge to change – a shift from prior behaviors. Our existing systems need a reboot, a refreshing of focus toward life-friendly notions that move us beyond liabilities, limitations and excuses. The Valley of the Sun Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development presented their annual conference in 2010 with the theme: “The Shift: Challenge to Change – removing liabilities, limitation and excuses in the workplace.” If the training and development world are sharing the message, our world is about to change dramatically from the subtle shifts in behavior. A new attitude of gratitude and understanding emerges.

Joan Holmes, author of ‘Planetary Citizen’s Handbook,‘ as the Founding President of The Hunger Project (1977–2007), ushered in an entirely new era, shifting global thinking from “hunger is  inevitable” to “hunger can end.” An unyielding advocate for gender equality, Ms. Holmes was a member of the UN Millennium Project Hunger Task Force, where she prioritized  gender in strategies to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The self-initiating theme that runs through the present Planetary Citizens activities offer the challenges Dee Hock faced as he led the chaordic management movement. His reference to leadership came from a 400-year old Scottish dictionary, “To go before and show the way.” Many are leaping into new ways to make the world better by serving the needs of our citizenry and our planet. Will you be one of them? An example of a local experiment to demonstrate the value and capacity for self-initiated action, a third-party neutral concept in IndepencedenceArizona.com
